ABSTRACT OF ROLE OF GOVERNMENT AND NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN CURBING POVERTY AMONG CHILDREN AND UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG YOUTH:MALAYSIAN EXPERIENCE

"ROLE OF GOVERNMENT AND NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN CURBING POVERTY AMONG CHILDREN AND UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG YOUTH:MALAYSIAN EXPERIENCE"

Abstract:

Poverty and unemployment is not a new problems, it is a global phenomenon and a major socio-economic problem to all country in the world. The natural disaster such as tsunami, earthquake, cyclone, drought, flood, fire, flood and man-made disaster such as war and global financial crisis able to change a huge number of citizens become poor. This factors will impede the stability and well-off of any country, and thus, combating poverty become a main agenda in all country, be it undeveloped or developed nation. Malaysia has been recognised as one of the more successful Islamic countries in fighting poverty. The eradication poverty program in rural area has successfully reduced the incidence of poverty from 52.4% to 5.1% between 1970 and 2006. In combating poverty and disparities among children and unemployment among youth and disabled, the non-profit organization has launched special fund, provide assistance and to the extend, urges government to set-up skill centre to help this unfortunate group disregards of gender, race, religions or different ideology of politics. One of the success efforts is the rectification of the Conventional on the Right of the Child (CRC) in 1995 for children under 18 years old. The "CRC" is important to Malaysian’s children because it sets comprehensive standard for almost all aspect of child’s life, be it Muslim or non-Muslim – from health and education to social and political rights as well as ensuring all children reserve the right not to live in poverty! Those above 18 years old, be it normal or disabled youth or be it Muslim or non-Muslim were given an option - entering colleges or university or entering skill centre or joining labor force, subjected to their examination result. Action of Malaysian individuals, NPO’s and government agencies that gone extra miles in lowering the disparities of income among children and reducing the unemployment rate among poor and unfortunate youth and disabled, is in-line with Prophet Mohamad S.A.W teaching. This paper is presented with an aims to share with other nations, especially the Arab’s country the methodology adopted by Malaysian in recognize the right of every child, be it Muslim or non-Muslim to obtain a standard of living and live peacefully in the multi-cultural society, as well as developed the youth to work harmony and without fear in this modern Islamic country.
